London C2C festival: Day 1 - Forgetting the tickets, Day 2 - C2C's friday

11 maart 2017

Howdie y’all!

Currently I’m in London together with my mom to visit the country to country festival at the O2, and my dad arrived this morning to visit the festival on Sunday. I’m writing this from our hotel while we’re having breakfast. It’s in English so friends from my uni here in the UK can read about my adventures in London.

Day 1 – Forgetting the tickets…

So on Thursday I took the train, first class because I had a free upgrade, to Schiphol Airport where I met my mom. When we were having coffee, my mom casually asked whether I had the tickets with me; expecting that I had, but when she asked me I realised I didn’t. Like seriously, I’m here for the festival and I forgot the tickets, how stupid can you be! I got super stressed and sent an emergency message to the festival Facebook explaining that I forgot the tickets and did not have time to go back and get them. I didn’t know whether they could get me new tickets or anything, so I also called someone to get them from my room and have them send over to me by express mail. After 10-15 minutes the festival responded that they could fix replicas for me; so the problem was solved. We had a pleasant flight after that (eventhough it was delayed 20 minutes) and arrived at the hotel around 8 pm. The hotel is perfectly located in Greenwich, next to the maritime museum and our room has a view on the Old Royal Naval College. After dropping off our luggage we went to a Jamie’s Italian restaurant and both had a very good pasta.

Day 2 – C2C’s Friday

After a nice breakfast we headed into central London to visit the National Portrait Gallery. That is a museum I wanted to visit for some time but never got the chance/time etc. I really liked it! After that we walked to Choccywoccydoodah, a shop where they sell the best chocolate in the most amazing shapes. Within the shop there is also a small cafe where you can eat cake and ice cream. We went there to meet Rein, Pims friend who lives in London. We talked a bit and around 1:30 pm we made our way to the O2.

It was not as packed as it was last year, so we could easily stroll around the town square to have a look at all market stands. My mom bought a nice leather belt and a silver ring. Because I had to collect my tickets at the ticket box, and they were not there yet, we decided to go back to the hotel for a break and to come back later. With the bus it took us 15 minutes to get back, and we spend some time in the hotel room to rest. We went back to the O2 by boat, which took us even less time, but is a bit more expensive than the bus. The tickets arrived but because of a big queue for the ticket box and a queue to get into the arena, we missed a big part of the first headliner concert by Jennifer Nettles, and were only there for the last two songs. After that there was a small show at the Yamaha Music Stage, which was 20 meters in front of us – we didn’t know that-, so we had a perfect view of that. The second headliner was Chris Young, my favourite country artist of all time, so I was super exited for this. I sang along with all his songs and kept track of his setlist so I could make a Spotify playlist for that. It was amazing! As a small show in between headlines, a female artist named Cam sang three of her songs, and after that my mom and I got new drinks and some food. We talked a bit with our neighbours (the ones on the right side were from Germany and the ones on the left were from Essex, UK) until the last, and biggest, headliner of the evening started: Brad Paisley. He gave us a really good show, and had a lot of contact with the audience (giving away a guitar, making selfies with peoples cell phones several times). We had a blast!

We were back at the hotel around 11 pm and fell asleep almost immediately.
